The Artist

He was born on the 22nd of July of 1947 in the illustrious town of Besalú (Gerona, Catalonia), to which  his parents had moved a year earlier due to his father’s military career.   He spent his early years in various places in the Balearic Islands:  Mahón, Puerto Pollença, Capdepera, es Mitjorn Gran, Es Mercadal and Ciutadella.  His ability  to perceive and adapt to different landscapes was heightened by the fact that most of this youth was spent in either Catalonia, Majorca or Minorca - very different environments joined by the common thread of the Mediterranean.  During his primary school years and later during this  secondary education his enthusiasm for drawing and painting was evident.  He began his artistic and intellectual education with the teacher and painter Francisco Bisquerra, and then with Joaquín Carretero in Ciutadella.  He followed on to study arts and sciences in Barcelona and Zaragoza.  Landscapes make up  the main body of his work, particularly his pen and ink drawings, although there are also pencil sketches, oil paintings, watercolours, etchings, lino prints and lithographs. One could say that he has used most artistic techniques throughout his career, but undoubtedly felt the most comfortable with his ink drawings, a technique in which he has made extraordinary inroads.  Aware of the state of different artistic movements, he believes that drawing has not been the object of as much attention as other techniques;  this explains his preference for drawing, which he has used at all stages and combined with other techniques to produce a homogeneous body of work.  He has held more than forty individual exhibitions in Majorca.  He has lived in Montuiri since 1997.
